Rachel Starks
Research Coordinator, Native Nations Institute

Rachel Rose Starks (Zuni/Navajo) is Research Coordinator for the Native Nations Institute.
Rachel grew up in the Pueblo of Zuni, New Mexico and learned the importance of a
strong education within a capable educational system at an early age. Wanting to
see positive change in communities everywhere, she was drawn to the practical
application of sociology for the purpose of social and institutional change.
Rachel has a BA (2000) in sociology from Wheaton College, IL, and an MA (2002)
in sociology from the University of Arizona. She has experience in
quantitative and qualitative research and focuses most of her time
investigating Native American governance and economic development institutions,
including tribal court structures and traditional law, asset building strategies
and needs assessments for native communities, and tribal nations on
international borders. General research questions can be sent to Rachel. She has been affiliated with the Native Nations Institute since 2000.
