Linking Grassroots to National Policy

The goals of the Udall Center are not simply to study public policy, but to link it to real-world actions.

One constraint to achieving such linkages has been the lack of suitable channels through which grassroots experiences can be accurately reflected to national policymakers.

The Udall Center's recent experience in working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to document the status of environmental concerns in the U.S-.Mexico border area is an example of a successful partnership. By helping EPA's Border Public Advisory Committee to research and compile State of the U.S.-Mexico Border Environment, the Center has provided a model for collaboration between land-grant academic institutions, community groups, and government decisionmakers.

Accordingly, the Udall Center is reprinting the border report as a special issue of Initiative.
